Greek Village: College of William & Mary
Williamsburg, Virginia11 Buildings Registered LEED Silver
In order to affirm and strengthen fraternity life at the birthplace of the US fraternity system, the College of William and Mary is replacing their current fraternity housing. The project seeks to create living environments that advance the highest and historic values of fraternities and that members, alumni and the college as a while will respect and value. To this end, the college hired Moseley Architects as executive architect and Treanor Architects as design architect to build 187 beds of new housing and either remodel or replace the current fraternity housing to serve the general student population.
The site for the project is in the West Woods portion of campus, and is creatively planned on campus land area that is currently underutilized and difficult to plan for another use. The project will plan for "net zero" impact on parking for the campus.
The State of Virginia requires that public buildings be certified for at least LEED Silver. The houses will be certified under LEED for Homes, while the Commons building will be certified under LEED NC
