Historic School Converted to Income-Adjusted Senior Housing

Northeast Junior High Place is an income-adjusted senior housing facility, converted from a historic school building, built in 1924, to provide 43 apartment units. Each one- and two-bedroom apartment provides occupants central heating and air-conditioning, individual water heaters, refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, and disposals. Treanor Architects provided architectural and historic preservation services for the building’s restoration. The adaptive use renovation of the school included an assessment of building conditions as well as planning and design for exterior brick, terracotta and stone restoration, lighting replacement, HVAC upgrades, fire suppression system installation, ADA adjustments, window repairs, and terrazzo rehabilitation. Treanor also assisted with the submission of federal and state historic preservation tax credits and low-income housing credits.
