Eisenhower Ridge Building 19 Recognized at 2012 Capstone Awards

The Kansas City Business Journal’s Capstone Awards honors exceptional real estate and development achievements in the Kansas City metro area. Eisenhower Ridge Building 19 was presented with a Capstone in the office category. The development project, led by Pioneer Group, restored a historic building and brought 400 new jobs to Leavenworth, Kan.

To many, the buildings of the 1950s and 1960s are aging eyesores in need of a facelift – or demolition. In reality, they are the new ground for preservation.

Structures built during this time period have long suffered from bad public relations. Many see them as too hard to repair. Ugly. Out of style. Not energy efficient – and not old enough to preserve. However, federal standards recognize postwar buildings— age 50 or older— as candidates for the National Register of Historic Places, and potentially for rehabilitation tax credits. Do you have a building that you’re interested in preserving? Here’s where to start:

  • Commit to a blind analysis of its significance and value, whether the design is your taste or not.
  • Search your organization’s own archives for announcements related to the building. These can reveal important features.
  • Compare your building with architecture in other cities and towns. This can shed light on its design significance.
  • Research publications from the time it was built. What was being touted as new and innovative architecture, and how does your building compare?
  • Contact your state’s preservation office to help ...

On November 15, The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association presented Topeka developer Pioneer Group the Judges Award for Honorable Mention at the J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation for the adaptive reuse of Eisenhower Ridge Building 19. The award, given in the category of best commercial/retail/non-residential project, was announced at the NH&RA’s annual ceremony in Boston.

Treanor Architects is proud to announce the launch of its new Sustainability Committee. The committee was formed as a grassroots effort within the company to serve as a resource and advocate for environmental sustainability. City Celebrates Building’s 75th Anniversary

Kansas City’s iconic Municipal Auditorium has received a face lift just in time for the building’s 75th anniversary celebration.

After 75 years of continuous service, the historic Art Deco building was showing its age. The City of Kansas City initiated a project in 2010 to restore the building’s exterior to its former glory.

On August 31, The Central Plains Consolidated Patient Account Center hosted a ribbon cutting at its new location in the renovated historic mess hall building on the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Affairs Medical Center campus in Leavenworth Kansas.

Many people from the community as well as the local and state governments attended the ceremony. Honored guests Governor Sam Brownback, Senator Pat Roberts, Gary Million, VA deputy network director, and Gary Baker, VA Health Administration chief business officer, cut the ribbon on the front steps of the historic building.
