On November 15, The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association presented Topeka developer Pioneer Group the Judges Award for Honorable Mention at the J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation for the adaptive reuse of Eisenhower Ridge Building 19. The award, given in the category of best commercial/retail/non-residential project, was announced at the NH&RA’s annual ceremony in Boston.

Treanor Sustainability Committee

Treanor Architects is proud to announce the launch of its new Sustainability Committee. The committee was formed as a grassroots effort within the company to serve as a resource and advocate for environmental sustainability. Through the incorporation of sustainable practices, educating employees and clients, and creating an environmentally responsible outreach program, this committee will address firm-wide needs in the area of environmental consciousness.

Downtown Norton in This Place Matters Community Challenge

The Downtown Norton Historic District was recently named one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s finalists to participate in the This Place Matters 2011 Community Challenge – a competition for a $25,000 grant.

Comprised of 43 contributing structures, the Norton Downtown Historic District encompasses commercial, industrial and civic areas in Norton, Kansas. The Norton County Community Foundation and building owners nominated the district for the challenge to assist in their effort to protect and revive Norton’s historic downtown.

Treanor Principal Elected to National Trust Board of Advisors

K. Vance Kelley, AIA, was elected to the National Trust of Historic Preservation’s 2011 Board of Advisors Executive Committee. The Board of Advisors is governed by the annually elected executive committee of officers and regional board chairs, plus four individuals from the at-large Board of Advisors membership. Kelley will serve as an at-large member of the executive committee in 2011. Brown County Law Enforcement Center Dedicated at Open House

More than 600 Hiawatha residents and surrounding community members visited the recently completed Brown County Law Enforcement Center at an open house Saturday, Sept. 11. The facility, which houses both the jail and sheriff's department, was dedicated to the memory of Todd Michael Widman, a sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty in 2000.

The law enforcement center includes offices for sheriff’s administration, records, deputies, workroom, interview rooms, evidence and property storage. The 41-bed jail will house inmates in separate pods to maintain proper classifications.

Stacey Zwettler Keller Obtains License

In August, Stacey Zwettler Keller passed the Architect Registration Examination and is now a Registered Architect in the State of Kansas. Keller is an architect in Treanor’s Historic Preservation group and works on projects such as the Kansas Statehouse Preservation and Restoration and Ft. Leavenworth's Building 427 Riverside Apartment Rehabilitation.

Design-Build Team Selected for Municipal Auditorium Exterior Restoration

The design-build team of Konrath Group and Treanor Architects was selected to complete the exterior restoration of The Kansas City Convention Center’s Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

Scheduled to begin in September 2010, the $3 million project includes the restoration of the historic building’s exterior limestone and ornamental metals while keeping Municipal Auditorium fully operational. In addition to the masonry restoration, the project entails the design of exterior lighting improvements to complement the building’s majestic presence and respect the surrounding neighborhood.

New principals bring expertise in historic preservation, justice projects

LAWRENCE, KS – Treanor Architects, P.A., is pleased to announce the appointment of Joy Coleman and Jay Zimmerschied to its team of principals. The two joined Treanor’s leadership team effective January 1.

Coleman has played an integral role in the preservation and restoration of the Kansas Statehouse, the renovation of the Truman Memorial Building in Independence, Mo., and the restoration and renovation of Topeka’s Great Overland Station. Coleman has practiced at Treanor since 1999. She is a 1996 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design & Planning.
